Design Engineering - DeWalt

Welcome to the European DEWALT Professional Engineering Organisation. We have one Design Centre in Europe, but based in two locations – Spennymoor, North of England and Idstein, Germany, close to Frankfurt.

The focus is on products for use on concrete – the core being electro-pneumatic rotary and demolition hammers but also other in- house designed and sourced concrete products.

The largest market for our porfolio is in Europe (where our strongest competition is based), so our Design Centre is close to the End User. This ensures that our customers' needs are fully understood and then reflected in the product designs. Products can then be tested according to the real application.

Idstein has five new product teams, three working on the completion of our hammer range and two, on other Concrete products which are all sold globally. The strategy is to gain market share with a full range of world-class products.

The target for each new product is market leadership in performance, durability and user comfort - helping us to grow the business.

Spennymoor has one new Product Development Team currently working on tile saws. In addition, it has a "Sourced New Product Team" delivering a wide range of products.

Besides new product design, the locations include funtions such as Test, Model Shop, Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Approvals and Regulation as well as Structural Analysis.
These support functions work closely with our US based Corporate Headquarters, creating synergies wherever possible and achieving standardisation of key components.

The teams work with Six Sigma principles to ensure the highest possible quality. They support our manufacturing teams and our suppliers to continuously improve quality and reduce manufacturing costs.
