The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) is looking for a new colleague to join its existing team in the Emergency Services Directorate.

THE POST

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Services Directorate for a positive and dynamic Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Manager to join the team. This is a fixed contract for 18 months and the Directorate is keen to appoint as soon as possible.

The role will report to the Director of Emergency Services and Island Security. With hydrocarbon ambitions and commercial flights this is an exciting time to work in the Falkland Islands.  You will meet many challenges dealing with a wide variety of work, ranging from major incident exercises, supporting our tactical response and playing an integral part in improving the Falkland Islands overall response and capability.

With a significant military presence on the island, you will also benefit from a close working relationship with the British Forces South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI) with joint exercises being undertaken. It will also involve close liaison across government departments including the emergency services, private sector partners and the Falkland Islands Defence Force (FIDF).
 
As the Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Manager you will be dynamic and possess a broad spectrum of recent major incident planning and exercising experience as well as operational response. You will be responsible for the continued evolution of the Island’s Major Incident Plan, designing and delivering regular exercises to provide reassurance around our capacity and capability. You will play a key role in policy development and the continued professionalisation of our major incident response and national security strategy and associated threats assessments. You will be responsible for developing a range of plans as would be required at a national government level.  
  
THE PERSON

The successful candidate will:

  • Have an eye for detail and a methodical and organised approach to work
  • Be able to work both on their own initiative and as a member of a disciplined team
  • Be resilient and able to cope effectively with unpleasant incidents
  • Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Possess the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels
  • Hold an appropriate professional qualification relevant to Emergency/Contingency Planning
  • Have a minimum of five years recent Emergency Planning experience 

THE PACKAGE

In return for this unique opportunity the basic salary range is £37,725 - £43,498 per annum (more may be available for an exceptional candidate) plus eligibility for an additional 25% taxable gratuity on successful completion of contract. Starting salary is dependent on previous experience. 30 days annual leave and a relocation package are included, along with a favourable tax regime.
