The role

As an adviser, you will contribute to developing and promoting the LGA’s key policy messages on local democracy, equalities and the voluntary and community sector, as well as support in the development and delivery of relevant projects. These are key areas of interest for councils and priorities for the LGA. Your work will include supporting councils and working with partners as we continue to address the effects of COVID-19 and future recovery from the pandemic. You will need to be responsive and adaptable to rapidly changing circumstances and priorities. 

Working in the Policy Directorate your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Support the team’s work on democracy, the voluntary community sector and equalities under the supervision of senior advisers in the team. Your line manager will shape your priority areas of work with you. 
  • Develop the LGA’s policy in specific areas, as shaped by you and your line manager.
  • Support with the LGA’s sector improvement activities in accordance with your policy work. 


The requirements 

We are looking for an effective team player with excellent organisational and people skills. Ideally you will have good knowledge and understanding of local government and key issues within the sector. However, we welcome applications from individuals who are willing to develop expertise in these areas with previous experience in other policy issues. 

You will be working alongside national partners including relevant Government departments and national officer associations. Therefore, you will need to excel in relationship building and joint delivery of projects, as well as being able to engage directly with local authorities and offer bespoke support where required.
