About us

The One Public Estate (OPE) Programme helps local councils, government departments and other public sector bodies to make the best use of their property estate to support service delivery and create opportunities for growth.

Our programme is delivered in partnership by the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Office of Government Property (OGP) within the Cabinet Office and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

With a funded network of partnerships across the country, OPE plays a critical role in supporting regeneration, housing delivery and levelling-up across the country and now is an exciting time to join the team as we continue to grow and deliver further investment in local places on behalf of government partners.

The role

Two roles are available in our Regional Teams, each of which will help manage multi-million revenue and capital programmes. This includes our South West region where you will work to advise councils, Combined Authorities and public sector partners from Cornwall to Bristol and our South East region where you will work with partners from Norfolk to Brighton. With such national breadth, you’ll have the opportunity to see how regeneration is delivered across the country and provide quality support to those places through our programme.

If you are passionate about place and excited about the role public estate can play, and if like us you believe there is huge scope in our programme to help public partners level up, then working with us may be for you. You’ll need an eye for opportunity, a good understanding of public sector working, and enjoy engaging with local stakeholders.

All posts are based in the OPE team which sits within the LGA’s Improvement Directorate. The role within our South West team will be offered on a full-time fixed term contract for two years. The role within our South East team will be offered on a full-time fixed term contract for 1 year (maternity cover). Secondments are welcomed – OPE provides valuable development opportunities through exposure to public estate and regeneration activity with a national programme perspective. The LGA is a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
