What is Social Work Together?

Social Work Together is about helping councils respond to the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on their workforce and communities.

Apply for this opportunity today to express your interest and find experienced social workers returning to work in your area.

What is involved?

In February, Social Work England issued an urgent appeal to bring social workers back to the frontline to support the local response to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Returning social workers were provided with temporary registration from Social Work England, enabling them to return to practice and help local communities and individuals in great need.

In partnership with Social Work England, the Department for Education and the Department of Health and Social Care, the Local Government Association (LGA) is delighted to provide a platform to connect employers with social workers returning to practice in their areas.

If you’re an employer in need of further support, we invite you to register for immediate access to our online platform. You will be able to review the skills and locations of our candidates and get in touch with them directly to discuss employment opportunities, including for wider care roles.

Professionals registered on our free platform are a mix of temporary and formally registered social workers.

In your follow-up conversations with candidates, you will be able to assess their motivations for supporting the campaign and discuss their suitability and availability for the roles you have.

When discussing opportunities with candidates, we recommend that you complete your usual recruitment processes and assess the candidates’ suitability for completing safe and effective practice.

It will be the employer’s responsibility to ensure that candidates meet the required level for practice.

Who can register?

You can register if you fall into the any of the categories below:

  • if you are a local authority
  • if you are an organisation that provides statutory social work services
