Trustee vacancies – Two independent trustee roles
Organisation: ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music)
Role: Trustee (Voluntary, Non-Executive)
Location: UK. Meetings mainly in London and online
Time Commitment: Approximately 6 days per year including prep for board meetings. Committee duties (optional) are additional.
Expenses: Reasonable expenses will be paid
The roles
We are seeking two dynamic, strategic thinkers to join our Board of Trustees. We are looking for individuals who will bring insight and challenge to our innovation journey, help us to strengthen our global digital presence, and help us to deepen our engagement in UK and international markets, particularly across Asia. You will be able to demonstrate relevant experience in one or more of educational technology development, digital marketing, publishing, law or risk management, within an international context,
What You'll Contribute
As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in:
- Bringing insight and challenge to our innovation journey by steering plans for products, platforms, and customer engagement.
- Bringing insight to and supporting the development of our digital marketing strategy to grow audience reach and conversion.
- Informing our business development strategies in UK and international markets, particularly across Asia.
- Championing innovation, inclusion, and sustainability in the design and delivery of our products and services.
- Ensuring that our mission is delivered efficiently, ethically, and in accordance with ABRSM’s values and legal obligations.
- Providing scrutiny and support in identifying and mitigating legal, regulatory, and reputational risks, especially in cross-border contexts.
- Serving as a critical friend to the executive team, offering constructive challenge and guidance.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We’re looking for someone with:
- Proven leadership in developing educational technology or digital learning—ideally at scale OR
- Proven experience of digital marketing strategies, customer journeys, and content-driven brand growth OR
- Proven experience of commercial business management, ideally publishing, from a sales, legal or risk perspective
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with an ability to assess risk and opportunity in a charity setting
- Independence of mind, curiosity and motivation to challenge the status quo.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to contribute to constructive board dialogue
Experience as a Trustee or Non-Executive Director is welcome but not essential—we value fresh perspectives and diverse lived experience. Induction and training will be provided.
