Job Description

At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives.

Fixed Term Contract until 31/08/2027

This is a very exciting opportunity for someone to join our systemically informed, Edge of Care Team.

The Team:

The team is led by a Systemic Psychotherapist and offers timely and collaborative family work to families where there is a risk of a young person coming into care or to contribute to a young person returning to their birth family. The team is new and will offer you the opportunity to shape how it delivers its services. You will be supported well and will have clinical supervision and systemic group supervision within an environment where your systemic skills and knowledge can flourish.

The Role:

You will work directly with families in a systemically informed approach. Your work will support family relationships to address risk of family break-down and requests for accommodation. Your main role will be to work alongside colleagues to engage with families and work therapeutically with the aim of keeping children and young people at home/within their families. Depending on requests and needs of the families, you may also work to support children and young people returning after being in care. You will contribute to the team and departments embedding of systemic practice.

The Local Authority:

BANES is proud of how we are thinking about working with families differently to support children and young people staying in/within their families. We are seeking to be bold and innovative in our approach upholding the principles and values of systemic family therapy.

What we are offering:

We are looking for a hard-working, dedicated practitioner, qualified, or on track to qualify at intermediate level of systemic training. We will then support you to undertake your Masters at Exeter University, in Systemic Psychotherapy while working in the team.

Requirements:

  • You must meet the criteria as laid out by Exeter University for the Msc in Systemic Psychotherapy: https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/courses/psychology/mscptprsystemic/
  • You will be trained up to, or on course to qualify at, intermediate level or already on the Msc
  • The post is dependent on being offered a place on the Msc at Exeter University
  • You must be able to attend the course and the clinical placement as part of the Msc
  • You will need to be able to fulfil the academic requirements of the course
  • You will need to be full time to enable engagement with the Msc and to fulfil the commitments of the team

Before applying, please ensure you meet the entry requirements for the Msc and are in a position to commit to the level of study required.

You will need to complete application forms for both the University and BANES: 2025-27_Systemic_Application_Form.docx.

Please note you will need to attach a reference from your intermediate course with your application for the Msc.

There will be a representative from Exeter University on the interview panel to enable to hold the interviews for the Msc the same day. This is so we can ensure that the successful applicant is able to fulfil entry requirements for the Msc.

If you are interested in this post and require more details or just to chat through the role and what’s involved, please contact Liz O’Gorman, Systemic Psychotherapist on 07816 184217 or email liz_ogorman@bathnes.gov.uk

Interview date: Friday 20th June 2025.

No agencies please.
