About the Role
As our Highway Maintenance Manager, you’ll take the lead in delivering safe, sustainable, and resilient highway infrastructure across the district. This is a high-impact leadership role where your expertise will shape everything from planned maintenance and drainage to winter services and climate resilience. You’ll manage a skilled team and collaborate with contractors, stakeholders, and elected members to ensure our services are efficient, innovative, and community-focused.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the planning and delivery of highway maintenance and drainage programmes
- Ensure compliance with statutory duties and industry best practices
- Manage significant budgets with a focus on value for money
- Oversee asset management strategies for highways and drainage
- Drive performance and accountability in contract management
- Advise senior officers and elected members on technical matters
- Lead emergency response planning, including winter and flood events
- Champion sustainability and carbon reduction in maintenance operations
Your teams will include: Carriageway/Footway Maintenance, Street Lighting, Drainage & Flooding, Highway Structures, and Public Rights of Way.
About You
- Extensive experience in highway maintenance within a local authority or similar setting
- A relevant degree and professional qualification (e.g. ICE, CIHT, IHE) or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of highway legislation, asset management, and drainage systems
- A proven track record of managing large teams and complex budgets
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A passion for innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement
