Job Description
At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives.
Fixed Term Contract (initially until 31/03/2027 - subject to extension, on success of grant funding bids)
Bath & North East Somerset Council seeks an ambitious Design Officer to join the multi-disciplinary Sustainable Places & Regeneration team, based in the new Place Shaping Service. In this career graded post, the successful candidate will be able to progress towards a Senior Design Officer and Principal grades within the role. It is anticipated that the post will be extended, on successful award of future funding.
The team has secured over £60m in project delivery funding over the last five years and is now progressing a range of ambitious regeneration schemes in Bath city centre, local high streets and the nearby towns of Keynsham, Midsomer Norton and Radstock.
Projects delivered by the team include masterplans, development briefs, redevelopment schemes, public realm and green infrastructure project designs and community and cultural projects.
About the role:
This role will be based in the Design & Masterplanning team, within the Sustainable Places & Regeneration Service, with a focus on design and delivery of landscape and public realm projects, in rural locations and Bath City Centre. You will lead the Chew Valley Recreational Trail project, which includes green infrastructure and footpath improvements linking up villages and community facilities to Chew Valley Lake. Chew Valley Lake is a key tourist attraction and Site of Nature Conservation Interest, within the Mendip area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The role will also involve working on design projects across the wider team.
You will work closely alongside other service areas within the Council as well as partner organisations. The role will also entail supporting wider corporate projects including strategic development e.g. working closely with the Local Plan team.
About you:
You will be able to demonstrate how you can bring your knowledge and experience in landscape architecture and active travel project delivery, graphic communication and community engagement to support the team. Work will include supporting spatial design, graphic design, masterplans and leading on landscape design projects, and associated community engagement.
