A new Neighbourhood Board will be set up to manage the programme and be champions of the local community. The Board will be led by you, an independent Chairperson.

As the Chairperson you will provide strategic and dynamic leadership for the Neighbourhood Board. There are no specific qualifications required for this role, but you must be:

  • An excellent communicator and listener
  • Have to ability to manage, negotiate and resolve competing priorities
  • Open to learning and development opportunities
  • Committed to ensuring an approach that supports diversity and inclusion
  • Able to meet the time commitment

Anyone who is ‘from’, living or working in the Twerton and Whiteway Ward; holds a prominent role in the community; or has a passion for the place is eligible to apply for the Chairperson.

In this role, you may not be an elected official e.g. A Member of Parliament, Cabinet Member, or Ward Councillor. In addition, you may not have any familial connections to the elected representatives currently in these roles.

Please read the role description linked below for more information on skills and attributes required as well as the duty the Chairperson is expected to undertake.

Location: Flexible with an expectation to attend in-person Board meetings, meet members of the community and attend site visits, meetings and events in Twerton and Whiteway as well as Bath and further afield.

Application closing date: 22nd March 2026

Interview date: w/c 30th March 2026 (subject to change)

Application process

To apply please fill out the online application form and submit a short CV (maximum one page) alongside a covering letter (maximum two pages), via the B&NES recruitment portal.

The covering letter should clearly cover

  • Why you would like to be Chairperson
  • What your connection to Twerton and Whiteway is
  • Why you are passionate about the local community
  • Why you are the best person for the opportunity, considering the skills and attributes set out in the role description.

Please note that the online application form is standard and we are unable to remove mandatory questions. Questions may feel unrelated to role; we encourage candidates to respond to them to the best their ability. All information will be held securely in line with data protection protocols.

Once the application period has closed, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview.

The interview panel will be community-led and comprise respected members of the local community, alongside Council representatives. Interview questions be scored and will focus on values rather than experience. For example we may ask, ‘What qualities do you hold that make you an excellent leader?’

As vested members of the community, it is reasonable that applicants may have interests that may indirectly benefit from the Board’s work. This does not preclude individuals from applying for the Chairperson position, but a register of interest must be filled out.
