Job Description

At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives.

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Programme Manager to coordinate and expand delivery of three of our strategic green infrastructure partnership programmes:

    • Somer Valley Rediscovered
    • Chew Valley Reconnected
    • Waterspace Connected

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the project managers and our partners to ensure that investment in these Green Infrastructure programmes is targeted to address need, links objectives and actions across these landscapes and their water catchments to help create a more sustainable and climate resilient place for people and nature.

The partnerships and their programmes, established and developing, seek to provide coordination of projects led by various partners to enhance biodiversity and deliver water and environmental resilience outcomes for the Avon Corridor, Cam and Wellow Catchment and Chew Catchment.

The role will support and develop the council’s strong commitment to addressing the climate and ecological emergencies and ensure that the Council’s responsibilities in relation to natural environment are more widely understood and delivered across all service areas. Thus, you will work with and engage senior council officers including elected members as well as partners in the West of England region including our existing partnerships and stakeholders, neighbouring councils, and West of England Combined Authority.

The role requires significant experience of leading, developing project programmes, programme management and budget and risk management processes. Candidates must be able to demonstrate capability of preparing business cases and funding bids that have secured significant funding packages.

As part of the Green Infrastructure and Nature Recovery Team in the Sustainable Economy Service you will work with our other Green Infrastructure, Nature Recovery, and Climate Managers, as well as the Landscape and Ecology specialists. You will be responsible for managing project managers for the specific programmes.

This post is full time (37 hrs per week) fixed-term to 31/03/2026 initially, with the potential to extend dependent upon the success of securing funding.
