About the Team
Our Service Design team sits at the heart of the Council’s Business Change Directorate. We’re passionate about transforming services to make life better for our communities. From Children’s Social Care to Highways and Council Tax, we work across diverse areas to deliver innovative, user-centred solutions that improve outcomes and experiences.
About the Role
We’re looking for enthusiastic and creative Service Designers to join us. Whether you’re early in your career or bring substantial experience, you’ll have the chance to make a real impact. You’ll collaborate with colleagues, partners, and residents to design services that are accessible, efficient, and future-ready.
What You’ll Do
- Diagnose service challenges and co-create solutions that meet user needs.
- Lead or support projects that improve how the Council works.
- Use research, data, and design thinking to inform decisions.
- Develop service blueprints, journey maps, and prototypes.
- Champion innovation and user-centred design across the organisation.
This is a career-graded role, and the level of appointment and salary offered will reflect the successful candidate’s skills, knowledge and experience.
- Service Designer Level 1 (Grade 8): £38,220 to £40,777 per annum (£19.81 to £21.14 per hour)
- Service Designer Level 2 (Grade 9): £42,839 to £46,142 per annum (£22.20 to £23.92 per hour)
- Service Designer Level 3 (Grade 10): £47,181 to £51,356 per annum (£24.46 to £26.62 per hour)
About You & What We’re Looking For
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Creativity and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in service design, business change, or related fields (or transferrable skills).
- Familiarity with Agile methods and design tools.
