We are looking for a dedicated and reliable Cook to deliver high-quality, nutritious, and well-presented meals that meet the dietary needs, preferences, and cultural requirements of residents, while maintaining exceptional standards of hygiene, safety, and professionalism within the kitchen environment. You will support the team to create a warm and welcoming dining experience. Your passion for food and commitment to quality will help foster a vibrant community atmosphere, ensuring every resident feels cared for and valued through the power of great food. This full-time role is to work 38 hours per week with variable shift patterns during the day including weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve balanced meals in line with residents’ dietary needs, including allergies, modified textures, medical conditions, and cultural or religious preferences.
  • Plan weekly menus that balance nutritional value with appealing presentation, incorporating fresh ingredients and seasonal produce.
  • Liaise with residents to incorporate feedback into menu planning.
  • Ensure all food handling and preparation adhere strictly to food safety standards and hygiene regulations.
  • Assist with food service operations, including plating, serving, and cleaning up after meals to maintain a tidy kitchen environment.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, order supplies as needed, and monitor stock levels to prevent waste.
  • Maintain accurate records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and safety checks in compliance with health regulations.
  • Maintain full compliance with Food Safety, HACCP, Safer Food Better Business, and all Environmental Health requirements.
  • Support themed meals, celebrations, and special events to enhance resident experience.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience as a Cook or Chef, ideally within a care home or similar setting. (essential)
  • Has a strong understanding of dietary needs, allergens, and texture-modified diets.
  • Understands and has a knowledge of food safety legislation and kitchen hygiene standards.
  • Can work independently and manage time effectively
  • Is compassionate, patient, and committed to delivering high standards.
  • Is Flexible, reliable, and able to adapt to changing needs within the home
  • Has a genuine passion for cooking and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
  • Holds a Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene Certificate (desirable)
  • Holds a NVQ Level 2 in Food Production or equivalent (desirable)
  • Has completed Allergen awareness training (desirable).
  • Has experience with IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) (desirable)
