About the Role

The role of an Assistant Service Manager is to support the effective operational delivery and continuous improvement of integrated community services for people age 50+ including Home from Hospital, Befriending, Friends Together (group support) Handyperson and Information and Advice.

The post-holder will ensure high-quality person-centred services that:

  • Promote independence
  • Reduce loneliness and isolation
  • Prevents hospital admissions and re-admissions
  • Improve financial well-being and reduce poverty

You will report to the Service Manager and you will be responsible for Home from Hospital, Handyperson, Friends Together, Befriending and Information & Advice services.

The main Age UK office is based at the Jubilee Centre in Moorside, Bury. The Centre is situated in a park and overlooks the beautiful Clarence Park Lido. The Jubilee Centre is an activity for people over 50+ and has a popular café for all visitors. However this role is hybrid and will predominantly be based at Fairfield General Hospital, Bury.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

  • Support day-to-day service delivery and performance targets
  • Monitor referrals, workflows and caseloads
  • Deputise for the Operations Manager when needed

Service Delivery

  • Oversee delivery of key services (discharge support, befriending, groups, handyperson, advice)
  • Ensure high-quality, person-centred support
  • Maintain safeguarding, risk and H&S compliance

Team Support

  • Assist with recruitment, induction and supervision
  • Provide daily guidance to staff and volunteers
  • Promote a positive, inclusive team culture

Partnerships

  • Build relationships with NHS, local authorities and community organisations
  • Support effective referrals and joint working

Performance & Reporting

  • Track service outcomes and maintain accurate records
  • Contribute to reports and impact measurement

Compliance

  • Support safeguarding and ensure GDPR and policy adherence

Resources

  • Assist with budget monitoring and efficient use of resources
