Café Assistant
10hrs
£13.55 rising to £13.70 on successful completion of induction and probation period
As the café assistant, your role is to support the efficient day to day running of the Green community café. You will work with the café supervisor and volunteers to offer a warm welcome to all visitors, whilst providing hot and cold drinks and snacks and embedding the five Persona values (Respectful, Enthusiastic, Adaptable, Caring and Honest) into everything you do.
The café will be open to customers from 9:30am - 2:30pm Monday – Saturday and there will be a need to be able to start slightly earlier and finish slightly later on the days that you do work, to support the opening and closing of the café. You will be supported by the café supervisor, volunteers and the community and engagement manager.
About you
Some of the volunteers you work with may be people who currently use our services at Persona, so whilst previous experience of working with / or supporting people with a learning disability is not essential, it may help you in this role. It is more important that you share our values and will use them to ensure the café becomes a community hub that local people want to use.
- You will need to be able to communicate effectively with people who use our service, colleagues, volunteers, members of the public, Persona managers and external suppliers.
- You will need to understand and be able to demonstrate great customer service.
- We will support you with appropriate training and qualifications as required, but you will need a willingness and ability to learn.
It is desirable that you have a food hygiene certificate, although training can be provided
About the role
You will ensure that the café is open when required and that a high quality service is offered to all who visit, that everyone is made to feel welcome and served professionally and efficiently. In order to ensure this happens:
- you will ensure that the café is open and set up for the day, including unlocking the café when required. You will also ensure that all areas are locked securely at the end of each session.
- you will need to be able to prepare a range of hot and cold meals, bake a variety of cakes as well as make hot and cold drinks.
- you will support the cleaning and tidying of the café to ensure it is kept clean and tidy and that tables and chairs are ready for use.
- you will support the volunteers on a day-to-day basis
- you will support the café supervisor in cashing up.
- you will raise any issues or concerns relating to volunteers and / or the running of the café with your manager in a timely manner, providing any written records of incidents or potential incidents as requested.
- you will carry out all work in a safe way, following agreed guidance and policies including meeting food hygiene standards and following health and safety policies.
- you will attend training appropriate for your role and that is needed to support you to ensure your role is carried out efficiently and effectively.
