Support Worker - Homeless Prevention
(We call this role Assistant Project Worker, but in other companies this role may be known as Support Worker or Housing Support Officer)
18.5 or 37 hours per week (2 FTE posts available).
Hours include some weekend and evening work on a shift rota
Salary £20,000 per annum (equivalent to £10.37 per hour)
What will you be doing in this role?
This is a key role in our newly refurbished community-based homeless prevention scheme, 'The Spires'. The team works together to provide the highest standards of customer care, supporting individuals at risk of homelessness with a range of housing related services.
You'll work in partnership with other agencies to provide a person-centred approach to supporting individuals that promotes independence, responsibility, healthy lifestyles and personal wellbeing.
What we are looking for in you
You'll be confident in communicating with a wide range of people and have great interpersonal skills. If you've had previous experience working in a housing or support role, this could be just what you are looking for. Your working hours will cover shifts 7.45am to 10.15pm (including weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis). We will consider part time hours. The role involves working with vulnerable adults and so an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required, but having a criminal record will not necessarily bar someone from working with us. We welcome applications from a wide range of people, including those with lived experienced of homelessness or some of the other challenges our tenants may face.
The main things:
- You'll be person-centred and empathetic with the ability to motivate and encourage others.
- You'll have great communication skills - both written and verbal - and be able to deal with our tenants and colleagues politely and tactfully face to face, by email and by phone
- You'll be a team player and have experience of working in a busy environment, and be able to prioritise your own work effectively
- You'll be able to show good IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Outlook and Word
