TEAM MANAGER RHINOS

The Role – Team manager rhinos  

This is a key role working as part of our Collections team taking responsibility for a team of 10 animal care staff looking after Eastern Black and Asian One Horned rhino and a variety of species including Banteng , Bongo, Anoa ,Roan antelope and a number of other hoofstock. The team manager will be involved in representing the zoo in a variety of media interviews, internal and external meetings as well as workshops and conferences in UK and overseas. 

As a Team Manager you will: 

•    Manage the day to day operations of the section including staff rotas and time and attendance records.
•    Ensure facilities are maintained to the highest of standards including  fire safety practices
•    Maintain a safe culture of working within a team and ensure current RA/SWP is applied
•    Ensure appropriate staff development and mentoring opportunities are available for all staff in a recorded, transparent process. 
•    Ensure care for interns and developing keepers with aid of assistant team manager 
•    Building strong working relationships within the team and across departments 
•    Work within set budgets to ensure equipment is appropriate for tasks
•    Using a breadth of knowledge in care of hoofstock and rhino, support a team of staff to deliver high quality husbandry care to a range of animal species.
•    Support the commercial activity of the zoo where appropriate
•    Support the curatorial team to develop and improve animal exhibits that lend themselves to appropriate conservation messaging and a very high quality animal care standard.

•    Contract – Full time

Our Requirements – Job Title

•    A HND or degree level qualification in a zoological related science or equivalent practical experience 
•    Extensive knowledge and expertise in animal husbandry and management with a focus on rhinoceros and hoof stock including breeding management. 
•    A proactive approach to developing new ideas for improving husbandry.
•    Considerable leadership experience, experience of supervising a team and be able to organise and prioritise tasks in a dynamic environment. 
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Although not essential, the following would be desirable: 

•    A proactive approach to developing new ideas for improving husbandry.
•    A proven understanding of risk assessments and COSHH is essential for this role to ensure all staff members are fully aware of safety and management procedures
•    A full driving license valid in the UK
