We have an exciting opportunity for an Overhead Training Instructor to join our Training Team based in Blackburn.


The Role will provide specialist training, assessment and audit to craft teams, trainee engineers and apprentices in accordance with ENWL's Codes of Practice & Safety Rules, by conducting field assessments and coaching of staff across the business.

As an Overhead Training Instructor, you will join a team of three to design, develop, deliver and evaluate training solutions to meet individual and business needs for Electricity North West’s colleagues, trainee engineers, apprentices and contractor staff working on behalf of Electricity North West Limited.

You will develop, design, review and maintain all training material, including power point presentations, workbooks and ‘on job’ books to ensure they are up to date and in-line with all current codes of practice, regulations and safe working practices.

You will support the Policy team with regards to consulting with manufacturers of overhead linespersons personal protection equipment, climbing equipment and tools. You will also support the development and implementation of new policy and standards related to overhead lines.


  • At least 5 years overhead linesperson experience (essential)
  • Minimum C&G level 2 Qualification (essential)
  • LV Live Line experience (essential)
  • Holds an ENWL authorisation in a craft or engineering or another Distribution Network Operator authorisation (preferable)
  • HV live line, short stick experience (desirable)
  • Understanding of ENWL operational training and competence requirements (desirable)
  • Thorough knowledge of operational Codes of Practice, Electricity Policy Documents and Distribution Safety Rules.
  • Good interpersonal, teamwork, report writing, presentation and public speaking skills.
  • This post requires a high level of trust and integrity.
  • Excellent communication and people skills and the ability to explain information in a straightforward end user focused way
  • Ability to work with staff from all services/crafts and at all levels
  • Excellent organisation and time management
  • Self-motivated team players with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong analytical, IT and with a strong customer focus
  • A full UK Driving License
