Our Roles
Do you have a passion for the great outdoors, no matter the weather? Do you like rolling your sleeves up and taking on a challenge? If you do, then this year we have three craft apprenticeships available.
Overhead Linesperson– You will learn to work on our 14,000 kilometres of overhead lines safely at height. We will provide you with the knowledge, skills, training and tools to enable you to build, maintain and repair our overhead electricity lines on wooden poles or steel towers. This role is critical to ensuring our customers in more rural areas have electricity supply to power their homes, phones, laptops and TV’s
Cable Jointer – you will work with our experienced teams to install, maintain and repair our electrical cables in the ground. These cables transmit the flow of electricity from our substations to towns and cities, connecting homes and businesses across the North West, keeping the power flowing and the lights on for our customers.
Fitter – As a Fitter you will be working in our 35,000 substations across the North West to maintain electricity supply to our customers. You will be working in confined spaces to complete fault finding, repairs and site maintenance looking after equipment including switchgear and transformers.
Locations: Our craft locations are - Barrow, Blackburn, Carlisle, Oldham, Penrith, Preston, Salford and Stockport.

You will need the following skills and qualifications to start your career journey with us;
- GCSE or equivalent Maths and English Language level 4 - 9 or A* - C;
- Enjoy working outdoors in all weathers;
- Working as part of a team;
- An interest in driving forward your career.
