N Brown is the leading ecommerce retailer behind Simply Be, Jacamo and JD Williams with an international customer base. We are all about democratising fashion and are size and age inclusive, focusing on the needs of underserved customer groups.

We are now looking for an experienced Merchandise professional to lead our strategy and team to create a modern merchandising, trading and planning function.  This will include strategic business planning to build world class AI driven infrastructure and develop trading capability globally alongside merchandising, trading and planning.    

 

Daily responsibilities:

  • Direct input into the achievement of the core trading metrics and balanced Scorecard Performance Measures, particularly stock, service and sales
  • Develop and communicate comprehensive department financial and product strategies
  • Establish and drive team performance to achieve goals and monitor key performance metrics to ensure that merchandise profitability targets are achieved in line with agreed objectives
  • Ensure the achievement of the KPIs across the N Brown Merchandise Business Units 
  • Identify and deliver new merchandising approaches to support the overall business strategy, in line with legal requirements
  • Accountable for the compliance of trading policies and relevant regulations
  • Define, deliver & regularly communicate the Merchandise & Trading strategy in support of and in line with business objectives
  • People Leadership, performance management & succession plans to create high performing, engaged teams.

 

Who would succeed in this role:

 

  • Previous experience at Senior or Director level in Merchandise function, within retail
  • Experience of digital or transformational organisation
  • Experience of formulating strategy and cultural practices in related or similar environments
  • Strong commercial understanding and business acumen
  • Strong communication (written and oral), leadership, negotiation, influencing and persuasion skills, particularly at Director level
  • Leadership experience - leadership style to create change in a challenging environment.
  • Sound judgement and resilience with an ability to operate independently and objectively
  • Digital literacy, ways of working, impact of digital landscape on merchandise division and wider awareness of changing retail environment
  • Proven ability to effectively plan and organise work effectively and prioritise activities for self and others
  • Experience analysing markets and trends, anticipating and identifying opportunities and developing strategic insights.
