Data is at the heart of what we do and has been identified as a fundamental pillar to our future growth. Building on our heritage as a data-driven company a new Data Division has been created to exploit the Data Science capability for the group. We’re building a world class team and infrastructure and the role of Data Science Engineer is a key requirement for success.

You’ll be helping to exploit the data we have from billions of page views and terabytes of data to understand, improve and personalise complex customer journeys. You’ll be supporting the implementation of our next generation data platform and the integration of new tools, data sources and modelling pipelines to enable our AI capability as we go through this exciting period of transition and investment.

Your role as Data Engineer:

  • Support the selection and configuration of a new scalable Data Science platform to enable advanced Data Science models to be developed and productionised
  • Collaborate closely with Technology and the Data Science leads to establish data flows into the Data Science platform
  • Support model development and automation (e.g. setting up scheduled pipelines, identifying efficiencies through containers, championing version control with Git)
  • Own the variable stability monitoring process
  • Own the model stability and cost monitoring process
  • Tactical support and advice evolving the Data Science tool kit
  • Work in an agile multidisciplinary team
  • Any other duties required by the line manager that are appropriate with the post, grade and level of responsibility of this role, for which the role holder has the necessary experience and/or training

What you need to succeed

  • Academically strong you’re likely to have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
  • Proven track record in a Data Engineering role, ideally with experience in a role assisting in a digital retail environment
  • Exposure to the techniques and technologies of Data Science
  • Experience working in cloud-based environments (AWS, GCP) with knowledge of setting up, configuring and maintaining accounts securely
  • Advanced knowledge of model scheduling and automation
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and Python or R
  • Knowledge of data development and integration processes
  • Ability to think outside the box and challenge existing processes and practices
  • A positive team player that is enthusiastic, energetic and creative
  • Good communication skills with an ability to convey technical concepts to a non-technical audience
