N Brown PLC has a new Data Division focused on exploiting the Data Science capability for the group and we are on the lookout for a Lead Data Scientist. You will be an expert Data Scientist who will help to elevate our Data Science capability by taking responsibility for managing our extensive portfolio of algorithms. We are building a world class team and infrastructure and the role of Lead Operations Data Scientist is a key requirement for success.

 

Your role as Data Scientist will be to create analytical scenarios, predictive models and machine learning algorithms that help drive our customer contact strategy and personalisation program. By using the commercial application of big data analytics, you will help drive profit and business change.

 

What you’ll be doing as part of the data division:

 

  • To provide focus, vision and leadership to your team driving its growth and development within the business.
  • To make a significant contribution in helping N Brown drive profitable growth by providing insight and recommendations, implementing algorithms and simplifying / automating processes.
  • To manage and contribute to data science projects that help the business meet its goals and improve its performance, ultimately extracting knowledge and insight utilising a constantly evolving range of data sources.
  • To lead and manage optimisation data science processes and solutions
  • To lead the adoption of new data-based solutions and technology cross functionally into business processes
  • To act as analytical consultants and effectively communicate opportunities and solutions to the wider business (often non-technical), enabling better and more informed decisions to be made
  • To establish strong relationships with all stakeholders and ensure work is prioritised in line with what the business needs and the opportunities it faces.
  • To lead and manage induction/training programmes for junior data scientists, data analysts and business users.
  • To apply expertise in data preparation, statistics, and machine learning to investigate complex problems in various domains, such as marketing optimisation or personalisation

 

What are we looking for in our revolutionary data scientists?

 

  • Academically strong you’re likely to have an MSc or PHD in natural sciences, psychology, physics, mathematics or statistics.
  • Proven track record in an analytical role, ideally with experience in a role assisting in digital retail environment
  • Experience of management / person supervision
  • Ability to think outside the box and challenge existing processes and practices
  • Project management skills, and the ability to manage the end to end analytical solution, from identifying the business problem to implementing a solution
  • Ability to harness “big data” / large data sets
  • SQL / SAS / R / Python or any other programming experience
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to convey and visualise analysis / insight clearly
  • An open-minded, flexible and positive attitude toward new challenges, with a willingness to embrace new technologies and business change
