Reporting into our Head of Engineering for Customer and Retail, we are looking for a future-thinking Technical Lead to come with us on this huge digital transformation…

We are in an exciting phase of change; along with the rest of the world, we’re embarking on a hugely impactful digital journey, both for our people and our customers. What’s great is that this position plays a key role in ensuring that we not only reach our goals in the web development space but as a wider engineering practice, at a healthy pace. You’ll lead a team of motivated Java Developers developing our commercial websites and supporting software using modern development standards, technologies and techniques

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience providing unparalleled technical leadership including growing a team of high-performing developers
  • A sound ability to help us shape a future-fit strategy and technology roadmap for the web space
  • Passion for well designed, testable and efficient code using design patterns and quality development principles
  • Experience in developing high quality, scalable and secure Java apps with at least one popular web framework (Spring MVC, Servlets), javascript and front-end technologies.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD) using Unit Testing and Mocking to produce highly automated build processes.
  • Knowledge of Relational Databases, SQL and ORM technologies (e.g. Hibernate).
  • Lead the build and set up of development standards alongside other technical leads
  • Ability to remove obstacles and keep the team motivated to bring their best selves to work everyday
  • Someone who can keep it real, both from a people and technology perspective; you’ll respect and appreciate legacy systems and processes, seeing it as an opportunity for change, not a challenge

Nice to have (though not essential):

  • Experience with Scrum and Kanban development methodologies and associated processes and tools.
  • Experience with Git Version Control.
  • Experience with Maven/Gradle
  • Experience with working with Web and Cloud technologies (including AWS).
  • Experience with e-commerce or content management systems
  • Exposure to Hybris or other e-commerce platforms
  • Experience of Search Services (SOLR, Endeca, Algolia or AWS Elastic Search)

What’s in it for you?

  • We take your learning and growth seriously – if there’s something you’d like upskill yourself in, we’ll do everything to make it happen
  • We offer a competitive package and benefits including a range of flexible working options with the latest technology to support
  • You play a critical part in this digital journey from its early stages – the potential to own and impact change is endless!
  • Work in an environment where failing fast is encouraged; we love experimenting and trying new things!
