To support the increasing regulatory requirements of being fully authorised by the FCA, we are looking to strengthen our existing compliance function. This has created a suite of new roles including a Head of Compliance who will work within our financial services team to help inform and support our Board, Senior Managers and customer-facing staff in critical and material matters.

Candidates should also enjoy interpreting and translating both high-level principles and complex regulatory requirements into workable policies and procedures, and then developing practical solutions to meet customers’ needs at the same time as those of the business.

The Role of Head of Compliance:

To ensure that J D Williams and all appropriate third parties are able to evidence that they meet regulatory standards for the sale and ongoing administration of their financial services products. To enable the J D Williams Board and other key stakeholders to consider and manage regulatory risks through providing advice and guidance on all FCA and other relevant regulatory requirements and guidelines that govern the company. Monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of internal systems and controls to regulatory rules and guidance

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Production of a rolling Compliance Plan that is issued and agreed with the J D Williams Board showing both key regulatory risks & developments and business changes that have a regulatory impact over the forthcoming 12 – 18 months; then reporting progress against this plan to the Board and relevant Senior Management across the business, including Regulatory Changes Committee (RCC) and Audit Committee as appropriate
  • Production and delivery of a rolling Compliance Monitoring Plan and Quality Review Plan that are issued and agreed with the RCC and Audit Committee reflecting regulatory and business risks
  • Advising Directors and Senior Management of the risks associated with non-compliance with FS regulatory standards
  • Ensuring Compliance Policy Statements are approved and subsequently communicated to relevant business areas
  • Ensuring that internal policies and procedures (including financial promotion sign-offs,  training, remuneration and incentive schemes, conflicts of interest etc) are managed, reviewed and approved, and subsequently monitored
  • Evidencing that control improvements and corrective actions to mitigate regulatory risks are identified and recommended to management, based on an acceptable and practicable timeframe
  • Providing ongoing reports so that Management is made aware of such improvements
  • Ensuring sufficient and appropriately skilled Compliance personnel are available to support the Compliance Plan (including Compliance Monitoring and Quality Reviews), either internally within the Compliance team, externally through the use of outsourcing/co-sourcing agreements, or through recruitment
  • Engaging effectively with management to implement agreed control improvements on a timely basis, performing such follow-up work as Compliance deems necessary to ensure the improvements are both adequate and effective
  • Ensuring Regulatory reports and (subject to sign-off by other FCA Approved Persons) incidents are notified to Regulators as required
  • Act as Chair of the Regulatory Changes Committee

You will ideally have:

  • Substantial experience of working within a financial services business in a Compliance role
  • Evidence of Engaging with regulators and other Third parties
  • Knowledge of Retail and FS products / processes
  • FCA high level requirements (PRIN, SYSC etc.)
