As a Lead Delivery Manager, you work will work as either part of a squad or across multiple squads to facilitate and lead the successful delivery of a set of technology products, services or transformation within a complex digital technology portfolio. You’ll be a master of delivering complex digital projects, breaking down barriers for your team and both planning at a higher level and getting into the detail to make things happen when needed. We are looking for someone who is highly collaborative, visible and inclusive. Who welcomes ambiguity, comfortable with flexibility and changing priorities. Welcoming the opinions on how you or your team can achieve better results. You will have strong decision making and prioritisation skills, especially when multiple trade-offs are involved, and faster decision are required.


With coaching and mentoring responsibility for up to 6-7 Delivery Managers, you will work closely with the Head of Delivery (currently Head of Project and Portfolio) to evolve the role of the Delivery Manager, with the collective aim of building consistency in practice, tools and techniques and contributing to the development of a competency and skills framework that supports the Delivery Management community.

As a Lead Delivery Manager, you’re responsible for:

  • Creating great Agile working environments to enable delivery of value early and incrementally
  • Facilitate daily squad stand-up meetings and other squad ceremonies, facilitating the planning and refinement meetings, retrospectives and ensure that user stories are translated into actionable tasks for team to work on during the current sprint
  • Working with squads to facilitate and enable effective delivery of change and service capability
  • Accountable for complex technology delivery involving multiple internal / external stakeholders, and drive the communication and visualisation of progress / transparency / visibility of technology delivery
  • Proactively manage part of the technology delivery portfolio and the cross functional internal / external coordination of work and dependencies
  • Create transparency and predictability across your teams using appropriate tool and metrics including story mapping, roadmaps, sprint plans, burn down charts, cycle times, value stream maps and release plans
  • Handle conflicting priorities well, communicate clearly and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented and opinionated team
  • Identify and remove impediments faced by the team by working with the delivery team and other stakeholders and proactively manage any risks/ delays in the commitments
  • Collaborate with Heads of Engineering, Product Managers and other squad members to understand future demand, priority and direction
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and reporting is in place to gain commitment and prioritisation


What experience are we looking for?

  • Proven success in delivery of a set of technology products / services or transformation within a complex technology portfolio
  • Knowledge of Agile, Lean, and Waterfall methods with proven aptitude to employing these in a pragmatic way with teams.
  • Technology, digital or e-commerce project and change experience
  • Proven experience using a range of agile project management methods
  • Stakeholder management
  • Knowledge and experience of digital delivery management
  • Experience in matrix-managing, coaching and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A methodical / analytical approach and great problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of Digital and Cloud technologies.
  • Empathy and good listening skills to understand the needs/ pain points of your customers
  • Great coaching skills and have successfully developed Delivery Managers under your leadership
  • Great people skills and can gain respect and trust of team members and others working with you.
