Freight Controller

Based at the Shaw DC you will be expected to ensure accurate export declarations of N Brown goods to core business customers in the ROI and the import of returns goods from ROI. Communicating with the Operation, Distribution and Transport managers and key delivery partners.

The role is also responsible for ensuring the accurate export declarations of stock to our partners in Europe, communicating with the Partnership team based in Manchester, 3rd party stock processes facilities based in Oldham and key delivery partners.

What you’ll be responsible for as a Freight Controller:

  1. ROI Exports

Timely and compliant closing of trailers destined for ROI, which is a daily requirement M – F.

All N Brown systems have been closed and data transferal has been received, which details the goods for export.

Trailer IDs and details of seal applied to trailer are correct.

Confirm with the haulier the trailer details and the estimated time documentation availability.

Follow the stages of declaration process to produce the following documentation

  • Export
  • Transit
  • Import

Generate and pass all documentation to despatch team for the trailer to be released to driver

Track the various processes and identify any queries raised by the relevant ROI authorities, those being Revenue, Health and Safety Executive and Department for Agriculture Food and Marine. Gather requested data and ensure this is passed to the relevant authorities to satisfy any raised queries. Make sure the Irish Revenue are notified when the other authorities note no further interest.

  1. ROI Returns imports

Receipt customer data from carrier.

Credit customer accounts.

Generate commercial invoice and submit to carrier.

Track export/import processes and support with any extra data or activity requirements.


  1. Partnership Exports

Understand the weeks despatch requirement form the partnership team for goods destined for partners in mainland Europe.

Create all commercial invoices and packing lists from data supplied by the partnership team.

Book the necessary transport with preferred European haulage supplier, confirming collection with stock holding warehouse.  

Request trailer load manifest from despatching warehouse.

Submit documentation to carrier, despatching warehouse, and Dutch customs agent prior to collection

Arrange payment of duties, taxes and fees to customs agent based in Holland

What you will need to succeed as a Freight Controller:

  • Organisational skills
  • Able to manage own time and adopt a flexible approach to meet the needs of the role
  • Data interrogation / analysis
  • Comfortable to communicate with people at all levels, including external agencies
  • Able to write Standard operating procedures / Method statements / Risk assessments
