We are looking for someone to join us as a Facilities Electrical Apprentice within our Logistics division and you will be at the very heart of the team! We’re looking for an aspiring Engineering professional who wants to advance through an apprenticeship scheme and be able to gain a full-time role within the business after qualification.

The Role and responsibilities

You will be supporting the Facilities team in achieving business and departmental goals/objectives by performing reactive, predictive and planned maintenance on all site and facilities as always required in an apprentice role, fully supervised by a fully qualified Engineer. Responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out the daily maintenance tasks as allocated by the Team Leader working with supervision on fixed plant covering a diverse range of electrical equipment and site electrical insulations.
  • Ensuring all daily planned and routine work is completed and ensuring all breakdowns are attended to and rectified in a line with departmental objectives in a safe manner, causing minimum downtime and preventing business disruption. 
  • Assisting the Team Leader to ensure recommended and additional spares where required are in the stores, recording and managing spares usage in line with stores procedures and the purchasing system.     
  • Promoting continuous improvements and change through own initiatives, including:
    - Actively promoting Health and Safety within the team, ensuring standard activities have been assessed and have standard operation procedures written for them.
    - Ensuring an effective fault response service is always available in line with departmental objectives. 
  • Maintaining the availability of business-critical plant to prevent disruption.
  • Assisting with project workloads as required.
  • Ensuring you work safely and achieve your required practical experience for coursework in line with Oldham Technical College expectations and workbook portfolio.
  • Attending college on day release and ensuring all requirements are met both in the workplace and at college. This includes making sure all recordable information is at hand and presentable to the tutor on site visits and audits.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Wants to support us in providing 1st class support in a heavily automated environment to operations.
  • Has an accurate understanding of the engineering function and where it fits in the organisation.
  • Has a proven ability to work in a multiskilled team. 
  • Has the ability to gain substantial electrical experience. 
  • Can effectively communicate within a team and across other departments.
  • Feels comfortable with heights; as part of this role you will be working from fixed and mobile platforms and scaffolding, using ladders and stairs for access and working on roofs.
  • Feels comfortable with working in outside environments; there will be occasional work outside on plant equipment and site facilities.
  • Has a professional attitude with plenty of drive and enthusiasm.
