Job Description

Are you ready to be a founding member of staff at Leigh Academy Rainham; a place where innovation and tradition combine to make leaders of tomorrow.

Do you believe in maximising the potential of every child?

Can you inspire others and nurture a passion for learning in both students and those you lead?

Would you relish the opportunity to create, shape and build our learning community , as a member of the founding team at Leigh Academy Rainham?

In September 2021, we will open our doors to the 180 founding students of our co-educational 11-18yr comprehensive school. Already oversubscribed, our new school is firmly set to be a beacon of excellence for secondary education in Medway.   The wellbeing and success of each individual child is at the heart of everything and we are driven by the belief that it is our role to ensure all pupils develop an appreciation of the limitless possibilities ahead of them. Every learner is entitled to an enriching, varied and personalised education; delivered through a broad and balanced curriculum that provides challenge, irrespective of need, starting point or background. It is our ambition that in our highly inclusive setting, all our students will flourish, becoming inquiring, compassionate and culturally aware young adults. We will work together to embed the essential skills, knowledge and attributes needed to be highly successful in achieving their own personal goals, as caring members of our community and as leaders in tomorrow’s world.

Our strong learning community works together and shares the value of collaboration; every member of our academy family works together to achieve success, cultivating a strong sense of belonging. Our belief in human-scale education, delivered through our college model, ensures every one of our students is known and valued. Strong pastoral care is at the heart of our academy and we place great importance on building strong partnerships with parents and carers.

Working in a brand new school is a unique opportunity. A flexible approach with a can-do ethos is required, as is drive, grit and boundless enthusiasm. We will be looking to recruit a staff body that  has a multitude of talents to enable us to provide a rich academic and co-curricular offer from the outset and look forward to hearing what additional skills, talents and interests you could bring to a role at the Academy.  A sense of humour is also essential!

About the role: We are seeking to appoint a full time Curriculum Lead for Science who can deliver high quality learning opportunities for our students in Science. As the Science Lead, you will have whole-academy responsibility for this subject area and will develop and review the Science curriculum on offer at Leigh Academy Rainham. Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers who are seeking to take on extra responsibility. As a start-up school this role will grow as our numbers increase, with the possibility of promotion to a Director of Learning position for the right candidate in the future. The role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis with an initial TLR of £2,873 based on the school opening with only Year 7 in its first year.

Due to the key role all new staff will play in shaping the learning community and experiences for our young people, please share with us in your personal statements any additional hobbies, talents and interests you may have that you could use to broaden our extra-curricular offer. We are looking to provide a variety of clubs and activities for pupils to access from year one for example chess, sports, choir, dance, gaming, Eco clubs, origami, media, journalism and astronomy or anything additional you can think of!

We are also looking to offer an appropriate financial incentive for a teacher with the appropriate skills and experiences to take on a Head of Pastoral role for year 7. This would initially be a fixed term, opportunity for one year which would be set for review the following year. If you would like to be considered for this opportunity please make this clear in your personal statement, outlining why you feel you would be appropriate for this role.

What we are offering:

  • A salary commensurate with the profile of the post
  • Bespoke CPD with mentoring and coaching opportunities
