Job Description

Interviews will be conducted either virtually or face to face dependent on your availability. We encourage applications as soon as possible for those who are able to start in September.

We know that exceptional Music Teachers are in high demand which is why we are offering a recruitment bonus of £1,000 for the right candidate (£1,000 payable in December upon completion of the 4 month contract).

Stationers' Crown Woods Academy are looking for an inspiring Teacher of Music to join our team in September 2022 on a short-term contract until December 2022. Our successful candidate will deliver high-quality learning opportunities for our students in this curriculum area. Applications are welcomed from both experienced and newly qualified teachers. We can also consider unqualified teachers with experience of classroom teaching if they are happy to progress - we can offer fantastic professional development at every stage of a teacher’s career!

Our pedagogical approach is based on the latest research and ensures that teaching is efficient and effective whilst prioritising staff wellbeing. We ask our teachers to plan for a rigorous learning experience in which knowledge is broken down into manageable chunks so as to prevent cognitive overload and allow our students to remain focused on what is important. We believe that knowledge should and needs to be taught explicitly from the front by the subject expert in the room. Working in this way allows our students to focus on the recall and activation of that knowledge and bring it to bear on conceptually focused questions. Through direct instruction, retrieval practice, low stakes testing and question level analysis in all year groups, we believe that subject gaps will be tackled as they occur and that proactively working in this manner will eliminate the need for reactive intervention in exam year groups.

The successful candidate will teach classroom based lessons and will have the opportunity to work with pupils one to one and in small groups.  The role is to develop the enrichment / extra curricular opportunities for the pupils and if possible to engage in cross curricular links with drama and dance. The candidate will need to be highly skilled on the piano and or guitar. Singing and leading a choir is highly desirable but not essential.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for Music
  • Experience of teaching GCSE
  • A comprehensive understanding of the research and cognitive science behind what makes effective teaching
  • The desire to forge strong relationships with colleagues and willingness to collaborate for the benefit of all students and staff
