Longfield Academy

Closing date: 20/04/2018

Salary: MPS/UPS + London Fringe Allowance

Employment type: Permanent

Department: Teaching

Hours per week: Full-time

Start Date: Not specified

About the role: The English Department at Longfield Academy are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated teacher to join their thriving, friendly and collaborative faculty from September 2018, or earlier depending on the successful candidate's availability.

We offer the unique opportunity here in that we’re receptive to our successful candidate being primary trained with Year 6 experience, or be fully aware of the challenges with the Key Stage 2 to 3 transition in literacy and this wider curriculum area. Our focus is on developing and pushing all our students to build on the progress they have made in primary school, and with the right appointment we can buck the trend and avoid the ‘literacy dip’.

We want to hear from dynamic individuals able to take the initiative as well as work as part of a well organised and collaborative team.  The timetabling for this position will require our successful candidate to teach predominantly Key Stage 3 but this does not preclude the possibility of some KS4 and/or KS5 teaching depending on the experience and skills of the successful candidate.

The key responsibilities associated with this post are in line with the National Teaching Standards.

Working at Longfield Academy:  Longfield Academy is a friendly and supportive working environment with innovation and collaboration at the heart of everything we do. The academy opened in September 2008, replacing Axton Chase School. Since then student outcomes have rapidly improved. We are judged to be a Good school with many Outstanding features, including all aspects of Leadership and Management. Ofsted also judged it to have Outstanding capacity for further improvement.

The school is heavily oversubscribed in Year 7 and has a large and growing Sixth Form.  In recent years, Longfield Academy moved into its brand new £25m building with state of the art facilities for learning across all subject areas. Particularly innovative are its home access iPad 2 scheme and Bistro called 'The Telescope', which is open to the public every week and run by students.  At the same time it has a thorough and robust approach to school improvement and is well on course to becoming a truly Outstanding school.

What are we looking for in you?  To be successful you need to be a qualified teacher who is passionate and knowledgeable about your subject and possess the ability to teach consistently at an excellent level. Whether you are at the start of your career or an expert teacher we focus on what attributes you will bring to the academy and most importantly what impact you will have on our students.  The day to day responsibilities and duties are that of the National Teaching Standards.

As a Trust we feel it is important to hire for the right attitude which is why we look for teachers that are enthusiastic, focused and resilient to the day to day pressures that teaching brings.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check. Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.
