About the role: Longfield Academy are seeking to appoint a committed and motivated Teacher of Business Studies & Economics to join us for September 2018. For the successful candidate we can offer the opportunity to join a cohesive and supportive department, comprising of highly experienced teachers and leaders.
This is an innovative department that offers a wide variety of subjects to suit the needs of various cohorts. We have recently added LIBF CeFE and A-level economics which have led to a rise in the number of students choosing our qualifications. These are very practical and are salient to current affairs and have real-world applications; therefore a wealth of opportunities for students to attend conference, foster links with industry, be involved in debates and undertake marketing and business sales projects.
For the next academic year (September 2018), we have the following take up across Key Stage 4 and 5:
- LIBF Certificate in Financial Education, Key Stage 4 – 240 students
- AQA Applied Business Studies, AQA Business: Marketing and LIBF Financial Studies, Key Stage 5 – 50 students
- Edexcel Economics A, Key Stage 5 – 20 students
We are a department that truly believes in education as an instrument to teach professionals as well as students and therefore regularly hold CPD sessions within our meetings and have a CPD library in our department; all of this in addition to a comprehensive CPD program in the school and across the Trust.
The day to day responsibilities and duties of this role are in line with the National Standard Teaching Standards.

The academy opened in September 2008, replacing Axton Chase School. Since then student outcomes have rapidly improved. We have recently been judged to be a Good school with many Outstanding features, including all aspects of Leadership and Management. The school is heavily oversubscribed in Year 7 and has a large and growing Sixth Form. Particularly innovative are its home access iPad 2 scheme and Bistro called 'The Telescope', which is open to the public every week and run by students.
