Councils are leading local communities through the COVID-19 crisis. The Local Government Association’s role to promote and highlight the work of local government is more important than ever during these unprecedented times.
From adult social care to NHS Test and Trace and funding to schools, we aim to get council-related stories are in the national media every day. We have also recently launched our Rethinking Local campaign, to secure the funding and powers councils need to ensure all communities can contribute to and benefit from any COVID-19 economic recovery.
About the role
We are looking to employ a highly experienced senior media relations officer to join our busy press office on a secondment initially until the end of 2020. As an organisation we are homeworking until at least the end of September. If you are based outside London, we would be happy to consider extending these arrangements.
As a senior member of the team, you will help us generate proactive stories which set the news agenda and secure positive, high-profile, national news coverage for local government.
The requirements
Main duties will include:
- Generating positive, proactive news stories which reflect the LGA’s corporate and campaigning objectives and rebutting negative news stories about local government
- Providing advice to elected members and senior staff, preparing briefings for high-profile media interviews
- Taking part in the media team’s weekly on-call rota.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build experience by joining one of the busiest press offices in England.
