The ability of councils to prioritise and manage the use of limited financial resources is one of the strengths of English local government. After ten years of austerity and the financial impact of the global pandemic, many councils will have some tough financial decisions to make over the coming period.
The LGA’s Finance Improvement Programme is part of our Sector Led Improvement programme, aimed at giving councils the support and tools they need to face these difficult challenges and to achieve financial sustainability.
We are looking for an Adviser to join the programme at this critical time. Working with the Principal Adviser (Finance) you will be an essential part of making things happen in a rewarding and interesting area of work.
The successful candidate will be someone with a track record of hands-on delivery of tangible results, and the willingness to be a proactive member of a small team.
You don’t need to be an expert in local government finance, although the ability to understand financial issues in outline is a requirement. The role is ideally suited to someone with an interest or background in public policy or local government who wants to extend their knowledge of local finance.
