The Local Government Association is the national voice of councils in England and Wales. We help support, promote and improve local government.

The role
The LGA is looking for a Communications Improvement Adviser to coordinate the range of services we provide to communications teams and senior leaders in local government. 

Have you got the skills and experience to help local government communicators improve lives and change their areas for the better? From strategic reviews to crisis communications, strengthening communications around COVID-19 to best practice resources, we help councils improve the way they engage with their communities.

Working with our Head of Communications Improvement within the Communications Directorate, your main duties will include:
•    Creating best practice resources for local government communicators, chief executives and leaders
•    Coordinating and participating in reviews of council communications functions and activities
•    Devising best practice events and seminars
•    Providing expert advice and counsel to our member authorities
•    Strengthening the communications response to COVID-19
•    Working with colleagues to champion best practice and fresh thinking in public service communications


The requirements
Our ideal candidate will be a communications professional with a strong understanding of issues facing local government, excellent personal skills and a positive, ambitious attitude. You will need experience of working in a political environment, and with a wide range of different internal and external stakeholders.

As a trusted adviser working with senior colleagues in local government on a daily basis, you will have excellent people skills and the ability to juggle complex and varied tasks. The successful applicant will work closely with colleagues across the LGA to ensure we provide our member authorities with the support they need. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to become an integral part of a busy communications team.

Please note this role is currently being performed remotely before a new flexible working policy is adopted.
