About us

The Local Government Association speaks with one voice on behalf of local government in England and Wales. We are made up of elected representatives from all the different political parties and aim to set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils. 

The role

We are looking to recruit to the position of Public Affairs and Campaigns Adviser.  The successful candidate will work with colleagues from across the LGA to enhance our ambitious programme of political influence and the profile of our Association and local government. This includes helping to deliver our work influencing parliamentary debates, parliamentary committees and legislation in order to secure positive change on behalf of councils. The post holder is also responsible for helping to strengthen local government’s engagement with Parliament, including by briefing senior LGA members and officials ahead of parliamentary inquiries and as part of the LGA’s engagement at conferences.

The requirements

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate experience of having worked in a fast moving political, parliamentary, and / or public affairs environment, managing a diverse workload and completing projects on tight deadlines. A strong and practical understanding of parliamentary procedure is essential. You will need outstanding communication skills and be highly organised. You will need to be an enthusiastic team player and to be able to develop good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally. 

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage. ​​​​​​​
