About us

The Local Government Association (LGA), with the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) has a programme for sector led support for social care; the Care and Health Improvement Programme (CHIP). As part of this programme we have a partnership with NHSX co-leading an integrated approach to care and health improvement through digital technology. We are looking for a highly respected and credible person to work as an adviser.

The role

The focus of the role is to support councils, and local health and care systems, improve care technology and digital developments in adult social care. This is as part of a wider CHIP team whose improvement work includes innovation in social care, co-production, integration, data security, finances, commissioning, safeguarding, and working with national, regional or local NHS partners on an integrated basis to improve outcomes.

Our vision as a team is for all councils sustainably adopt digital technology that transforms health and wellbeing for their residents. Our mission is to:
•    co-create improvement tools and support to build local authorities’ confidence in the use of digital technology and innovation. 
•    enable councils to work with their residents to ensure people are supported to live the lives they want.
•    help councils learn what works and share this across the sector so that all local areas can benefit.

This role offers varied work from delivering direct support to councils and working with local areas and regions, through to influencing and inputting into national strategy and policy. If you would like to be part of our team and help us achieve our vision, then we are looking for an Adviser to join us as part of our digital technology and innovation workstream

As we encourage flexible working at the LGA, we are happy to discuss the option of a home-based contract. The salary for a home-based worker is from £42,821 pa or office-based from £46,533 pa (including London Weighting). The office-based working will be in line with our transitional flexible working policy as we begin to go back into the office again following COVID-19.

The requirements

The successful candidate should have a good, broad knowledge of local government and adult social care. Ideally applicants will have an interest and understanding of digital technology within the sector, although highly technical knowledge is not required.  

This role can either be home or office based and we offer a wide range of flexible working policies and practices. It is possible that the postholder will be asked to undertake some travel within England. If this is needed, it will be in line with the LGA policy and practice in relation to Covid-19

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.
