The role and requirements

We are looking for a capable & experienced payroll person who can work on their own initiative. You will have experience of running end-to-end payroll for multiple organisations and have strong systems knowledge, ideally PeopleXD/CoreHR (which we are launching in early 2022). We are a small team and require someone who can communicate confidently, be an active team member and is willing to get involved in a variety of activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day payroll processes including, but not limited to, processing all monthly payrolls including calculating payments for starters, leavers and changes, calculating statutory payments including Tax, National insurance Contributions, maternity pay and shared parental leave. You will own all month-end processes including RTI submissions and third-party reconciliations.  You will also be responsible for overseeing the weekly expenses processing and supporting the work of our Payroll Apprentice.

You will be focused on the detail, well-organised and committed to providing a timely and efficient response as well as continuously looking for ways of improving systems and processes, therefore someone with a can-do attitude is essential. The role will include some project work therefore we are looking for an individual who has the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.

The LGA has a combined HR and Payroll team who work hard to ensure the best outcomes for staff. These are standard job terms however various flexible working options will be considered should they meet the needs for the business. Examples could include, job share, part-time and a flexible pattern. Let us know how we can best support you to achieve the right work/life balance.

We offer a great working environment with annual leave entitlement starting at 28 days rising to 32 days after 5 years’ local government service (plus bank holidays), along with performance related annual incremental salary.

As we encourage flexible working at the LGA, we are happy to discuss the option of a home-based contract. The salary for a home-based worker is from £34,728 pa or office-based from £38,440 pa (including London Weighting). The office-based working will be in line with our transitional flexible working policy as we begin to go back into the office again following COVID-19.

The successful candidate will ideally be able to start by the end of January 2022.
