The role

This newly created role offers the opportunity to work as part of the pensions team at the LGA. The pension team works with and on behalf of the administering authorities of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) in England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. As part of the team, you will play an important role in the legislative and administrative framework of the largest funded pension scheme in the UK.

We are looking for a high performing individual to lead on the provision of support and guidance to LGPS employers. You will develop, co-ordinate and deliver high quality training to enable LGPS employers to discharge their duties in all areas of the LGPS. You will create and maintain guides, template documents and other resources to help LGPS employers fulfil their responsibilities.

You will also assist with developing and delivering training to pension practitioners, elected members and local pension board members. You will lead on developing innovative web-based training solutions.

As we encourage flexible working at the LGA, we are happy to discuss the option of a home-based contract. The salary for a home-based worker is from £42,821 pa or office-based from £46,533 pa (including London Weighting). The office-based working will be in line with our transitional flexible working policy as we begin to go back into the office again following COVID-19.

The requirements

The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of the LGPS and be comfortable in interpreting and explaining complex legislation. Experience of delivering training using a variety of formats, ideally in a pension setting, is essential.

You will also have excellent IT skills and a proven track record of organising and planning events. You will be able to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision using your own initiative.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is willing to challenge the status quo.

The job will involve attending events and other meetings across the UK and outside normal office hours. A flexible attitude to working hours and working away from the office and/or home is essential.

For an informal conversation about this role please contact Lorraine Bennett (Senior Pensions Adviser) via email Lorraine.bennett@local.gov.uk

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.
