The role
The LGA pensions team works with and on behalf of authorities and other stakeholders across the Firefighters, Police, Teachers and Local Government pension schemes in England. To be part of this team is to be a vital element in the legislative and administrative framework of some of the largest pension schemes in the UK.
We are looking for an inspirational individual, to work alongside experienced and talented pensions specialists in respect of the Firefighters’ scheme
Reporting directly to the Senior Pensions Adviser (Bluelight), the successful candidate will assist with priority developments in scheme governance and provide support to the Firefighters’ Pensions Scheme Advisory Board, it’s committees, and Fire and Rescue Authorities’ Local Pension Boards.
As we encourage flexible working at the LGA, we are happy to discuss the option of a home-based contract. The salary for a home-based worker is from £43,570 pa or office-based from £47,347 pa (including London Weighting). The office-based working will be in line with our transitional flexible working policy as we begin to go back into the office again following COVID-19.
The requirements
You will possess the necessary knowledge and experience of pension scheme governance, ideally in the Fire sector, to help us ensure an affordable, sustainable, and comprehensible pension scheme continues to be available to the employees and pensioners who rely on them. We are looking for a good communicator who is capable of being technical and a problem solver who also understands the workings of the schemes. We are interested in someone who can work collaboratively with other experts to develop robust governance solutions and also provide clarity in a very complex subject area.
This exciting role provides you with a chance to raise your profile on a national stage. You’ll be regularly working alongside officers across the schemes as well as attending both formal and ad hoc national bodies and working groups. You will also have a role in liaising across the LGA working with others including the wider pensions team and the workforce team. Your immediate focus will be on supporting scheme stakeholders through a number of upcoming legislative developments that will require clear and comprehensive information and will bring with them significant governance and communication challenges.
The person we offer this post to will be an excellent communicator who can work in a complex and fast-paced environment. The role will require you to be flexible in your work arrangements as it will involve some travel around the UK as well as a requirement to regularly be in London, sometimes at short notice and occasionally overnight.
