The role

The LGA is a politically led organisation and we are looking for a Political Adviser to work in the Independent Group Office. You will work closely with our Independent Group councillors across England as Wales, advising and supporting them, as well as with colleagues across the LGA, understanding the views of our councillors on important local government issues.

*As we encourage flexible working at the LGA, we are happy to discuss the option of a home-based contract. The salary for a home-based worker is from £35,336 pa or office-based from £39,113 pa (including London Weighting). The office-based working will be in line with our transitional flexible working policy as we begin to go back into the office again following COVID-19.

The requirements

In the fast paced, ever-changing world of local government, we are looking for an organised and motivated, self-starter who can confidently work with councillors with a range of political views. You will be able to propose and effectively deliver programmes and ways of working that reach out and engage our members.

You will have the political sensitivity and skills to understand and embrace the challenge of bringing together councillors from diverse parties and views under a single Group Office. You will have a good understanding of how local government and local democracy works, as well as an understanding of public policy, the issues that are important to the local government sector and of the local-central government relationship.

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.
