About us

The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.  

We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.  

We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector. 


About the role 

This post is based in the LGA’s Research and Information Team. 

We are currently looking for someone to work with us on secondment, or for a fixed term, until the end of March 2025.  In this role, you will design and deliver research, and provide data and analytic services for the LGA. You will also manage a small team of research and data analysts.  This is a great opportunity for a good social researcher to get some experience of line management and managing a workstream of projects. 

Please note: This role is open to local council employees and civil servants only and would be on fixed term and secondment basis only.

About you 

The successful candidate will design and deliver social research projects, including surveys, as well as provide data and analytic services for the LGA. They will be a key part of the team that delivers evidence for the LGA’s policy development and lobbying work, evaluates and provides information for sector support and delivers our LG Inform data service to authorities. The team’s work is widely used within the organisation and often features in the media.

It’s essential that you have very good survey design and quantitative skills and are confident working with data.  We are looking for a team player with good organisational abilities, and who can manage staff to deliver projects successfully. 

The successful candidate can expect to take on a very varied and wide-ranging portfolio of work that supports and promotes local authorities and helps them to improve.
