About us

The LGA is the national representative body for local government in England. Working on behalf of councils to support, promote and improve local government. We also represent Welsh councils through a corporate membership arrangement with the Welsh LGA.

We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.  We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector.

There is a lot of external change also on the horizon: the political environment and the outcome of the general election, as well as changing priorities, areas of risk and opportunities for our members. We need to not just manage these changes but lead them in a planned and purposeful way to shape our future and prepare for what lies ahead. As we embark on an exciting journey of transformation we are looking to create a Programme Management Office to support delivery.

About the role

As part of our new programme management office, you will work closely with the Head of Strategy & Design to identify cross-organisational priorities and create the infrastructure to deliver change by ensuring that the necessary processes and documentation are in place.

This role is central to our change programme, overseeing all programme assurance, budgets, risks, issues and interdependencies so that work can be delivered at pace.

About you

You will have experience in running projects and programmes and will have designed and implemented governance, reporting and assurance frameworks for a varied and complex workload. You have worked with significant budgets (£1m+) and developed programme management tools, templates and documentation ensuring that these are applied consistently across an organisation.
