We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with committee secretariat experience to be part of the LGA’s Member Services team.  This is an opportunity to help support, promote and improve local government through working directly with senior locally elected politicians at a national level to facilitate efficient, accountable and informed political decision making and policy development.

About the job

As a Member Services Officer in the Member Services Team, you will plan, organise and support a portfolio of LGA member meetings. The role will include preparing and despatching agendas, drafting minutes and reports, as well as undertaking ad hoc research and drafting senior level briefing material. You’ll also contribute to the development and improvement of support services for LGA elected Members.

Working in a fast paced, challenging political policy environment, you’ll have an unrivalled insight into the workings of local and central Government politics and policy making, as well as the opportunity to develop new contacts and knowledge.

About you

You’ll have experience of servicing formal meetings as well as a sound knowledge of local government and an understanding of the LGA’s work. Establishing good working relationships with Senior Members and Officers is key as you will offer them support as well as advice and guidance on procedural and constitutional issues. You will have excellent organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and plenty of initiative. You’ll also be a proficient IT user and will have an excellent command of written and spoken English.  Political sensitivity and outstanding communication skills are also essential to this post.

The LGA is currently based in Local Government House in Smith Square, due to the refurbishment of this building the LGA will be moving to Layden House, Farringdon (zone 1) for a period of up to 12 months from November 2016.
