The role
The LGA has a track record of leading the debate on devolution within England. We have been at the forefront of developing the policy background and political narrative to set the scene for devolution deals between councils and government. Now we are working at the leading edge to support combined authorities, mayors and councils in their local deals and constantly refresh the case for change.

We are looking for an inspirational individual who can build upon our success to date, working with our members and our partners to embed the benefits of devolution.
The successful candidate will lead priority work programmes to support, promote, and improve local government.

The requirements
You will have the knowledge, experience and credibility to lead the conversation with senior politicians and officers from across local government. We are looking for a strategic thinker rather than a technician, someone with political nous and a track record of making a difference.

This role provides you with a chance to raise your profile on a national stage. You’ll be leading multiple projects so you’ll need to be able to prioritise and move swiftly between these to add value.

The person we offer this post to will be an excellent communicator, problem-solver and team player. You will have experience in developing improvement and support programmes and working collaboratively to design and deliver effective interventions.

Your ability to form strong and trusted working relationships at the most senior levels of local government quickly will make you stand out.

About us
The Local Government Association speaks with one voice on behalf of local government in England and Wales. Made up of elected representatives from all the different political parties, we aim to set the political agenda and have our say in the national media on the issues that matter to council members. There has never been a more exciting time to work for us.

The LGA is currently based in Layden House, Farringdon (zone 1), but will be moving back to 18 Smith Square, Westminster once refurbishment is complete in autumn 2017.

Please note the Job Description is generic, with details of the role outlined above.
