The Workforce, Leadership and Productivity Directorate of the LGA provides support to councils to help them improve. Whilst as a member of the Improvement Support Team within this Directorate you may be deployed across any of the Directorate’s work areas and programmes, but we are looking in particular for three Programme Support Officers to work with our Research and Information Team, our Digital and Cyber Security Programmes, and a Children’s Services Improvement Programme.
 
We are looking for experienced, highly competent administrative and project support staff who can work pro-actively, demonstrating initiative across multiple projects at a time. You will be a team player and be flexible in approach.
 
The successful applicant will need to be highly organised with the ability to plan and deliver a varied workload.  This will include planning and preparing meetings and events, taking minutes and writing up notes of meetings and being able to identify key messages.
 
As a key point of contact, you will have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, be able to confidently field queries, and liaise with senior officers, councillors, and service providers. 
 
You will be required to provide financial administrative support, including raising orders and invoices and monitoring team budgets, as well as keeping project information and records up to date. You will need to understand and ensure corporate policies and processes are followed e.g. those around procurement. Attention to detail is essential.
 
Digital and Cyber Security
The Digital Programmes are designed to help councils boost productivity by digitising their services, while the Cyber Security work is to support councils understand the risks and put in place measures to mitigate against these.

Research and Information Team
The Research and Information Team delivers evidence for the LGA’s policy development, support and lobbying work, and delivers our LG Inform data service to authorities.  Our work is widely used within the organisation and often features in the media.  The PSO will support research projects, organise our training and webinars, promote our work (particularly via social media channels and e-bulletins), support the commercial and sales work for one of our products, and contact authorities directly via email and telephone to encourage them to share data for our benchmarking clubs.

Children’s Improvement Programme
The Children’s Improvement Programme includes the delivery of a range of children’s peer reviews in local authorities across the country. In addition, The LGA has recently secured funding from the Department for Education to deliver two new pieces of work that will be designed to support children’s services in councils.

The position working with the Children’s Improvement Programme is fixed-term until 31 March 2020. The other two are fixed-term until 31 March 2019.
