Develop and enhance local government’s leadership capacity 
 
The role
Armed with political nous, organisational skills and communication skills, you’ll work across multiple teams to help design and deliver political and managerial leadership development programmes; strengthening and enhancing local government’s leadership capacity and shaping the ability of local government to lead improvements, partnerships and change in order to meet the needs of local communities. 
 
The Leadership and Localism team’s work forms part of the LGA’s wider Sector-Led Improvement offer. In this role you will work primarily with the highly successful National Graduate Development Programme, This is a unique opportunity to join team ngdp at an exciting time for the programme.  The ngdp is growing in popularity and we’re looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to help us shape and develop the future direction of the programme. You will have responsibility for project managing several aspects of ngdp including attraction, recruitment, learning and development and the alumni network.  This role will provide you with the opportunity to work at a national level with senior stakeholders, as well as use your creativity and understanding of best practice to continue developing ngdp.  
 
There will also be opportunities to be involved in other Leadership and Localism development programmes for councillors and officers. It’s important that you’re politically aware with the ability to exercise discretion, judgement and confidentiality when dealing with politicians and officers at every level.
 
The requirements
You will need to have a sound understanding of local government and the key issues facing councils, alongside a track record of successfully managing complex events, projects and programmes. A positive, ‘can-do’ attitude is essential. Ideally you will also have a good understanding of different approaches to personal development.

About the LGA’s National Graduate Development Programme
The ngdp programme is part of the LGA’s Highlighting Managerial Leadership offer. It is a two-year graduate management development programme, run by the LGA, designed to provide local authorities with the high-calibre managers that communities need by giving committed graduates the training and opportunities to make a positive impact.
