The role
The LGA pensions team works with and on behalf of the 88 administering authorities, 14,000 scheme employers and 5 million members of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) in England and Wales. The team also provides advice and support to the Local Government Pension Schemes in Scotland and Northern Ireland. To be part of this team is to be a vital element in the legislative and administrative framework of the largest funded pension scheme in the UK.
 
We are looking for someone who is as experienced and talented as the pensions advisers they will work alongside and has a particular interest in and aptitude for taking forward the team’s internet and social media communications.
 
Reporting directly to the Head of Pensions, the successful candidate will provide clear, high quality advice to LGPS administering authorities, employers and scheme members, and ensure that the service continues to be responsive and appropriate to their needs. 
 
The requirements
You will have the extensive knowledge, experience and credibility to help us ensure an affordable, sustainable and comprehensible pension scheme continues to be available to the millions of employees, former employees and pensioners who rely on it for their future security. We are looking for a technician who puts the customer first, a strong communicator who understands the workings of the scheme.  We are interested in someone who can work with other experts, to provide clarity in a very complex subject area.  
 
This role provides you with a chance to use your skills on the national stage. You’ll be regularly working with a wide range of council officers, employee representatives and central government officials as well as liaising across the LGA and ensuring scheme stakeholders are provided with excellent advice. Your immediate focus will be on developing a digital communications strategy to meet the needs of scheme members, employers and administrators.
 
The person we offer this post to will be an excellent communicator who can work in a complex and fast-paced environment. The role will be based in London and require occasional travel around the UK for which all appropriate expenses will be met.

The LGA is based at 18 Smith Square in Westminster with easy access by tube (Westminster, Pimlico) and rail (Victoria).
