Hours:        Full-time (35 hours) / Part-time hours considered (minimum 30 hours / 4 days)

Fixed term contract initially 12 months (contract will run in conjunction with undertaking study towards achievement of an Apprenticeship standard: Payroll Support Level 3).


The role
Are you already working in a payroll or finance role (or have recent experience of doing so) and are looking to develop your Payroll career in a progressive, changing organisation? We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is committed to and wants to make a real contribution to the team and deliver a truly customer focused service. You may feel that you don’t fit the usual mould of an apprentice however apprenticeships are for everyone and we would welcome applications from anyone who thinks that this role might be right for them.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the day to day administration for the HR and Payroll team including the processing of new starters, leavers and employment changes, maintaining accurate employee information on our HR and Payroll System (Agresso), as well as supporting expenses and pension administration.

You will be focused on the detail, well organised and committed to providing a timely and efficient response as well as continuously looking for ways of improving systems and processes, therefore someone with a can do attitude is essential.     

With the appropriate on the job training, supervision and guidance, to provide efficient and effective administrative support to the HR and Payroll Team and to ensure service users are provided with key information on HR and Payroll processes and procedures.  

Duties include:
•    Monthly Payroll
•    Payroll Data Entry
•    Dealing with Payroll Queries 
•    Calculating SMP, SSP, Tax & NI
•    Documenting Starters, Leavers and Holidays
•    Telephone calls with clients/employees
•    Attending meetings
•    Supporting other staff with their administration tasks

The requirements
•    A good communicator, with the ability to work well on your own initiative or as part of a team. 
•    Ability to learn office systems and procedures.
•    Experience in the use of a range of software packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and the internet.
•    Good oral and written communication skills.
•    Basic understanding of numerical acumen.
•    Good organisational skills with an ability to manage own workload and priorities in order to meet deadlines, and respond to changing priorities.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with face-to-face and telephone enquiries in a courteous and patient manner, providing a high level of customer care.
•    A positive ‘can-do’ attitude
•    Demonstrate a keenness to learn and take direction
