Opportunity for local candidates to apply to become a National Management Trainee on the national graduate development programme (ngdp) on a fixed term contract until August 2022 for Harrow Council

Please read before applying

You have been directed here as the Local Government Association’s (LGA) ngdp support team are hosting the application link for Harrow council’s local campaign for the national graduate development programme (ngdp). The ngdp support team will invite successful candidates to each stage of the ngdp recruitment process including online tests, video link and assessment centres and will refer those that are successful at stage 3 for an interview with the council.

The LGA and Harrow Council will review your application in partnership and the Harrow Borough Council will be responsible for shortlisting your application against the set criteria, whilst the LGA ensure that you have met the boundaries for the ngdp test & assessments during the recruitment process.

Your local application will progress in the same timeframe as the ngdp’s national campaign and you will be assessed alongside national candidates. The ngdp facilitates the assessment of all nominated local candidates in line with national candidates to ensure they meet the same standard. Successful candidates will become part of the national cohort with access to ngdp learning and development, networks and knowledge events, but will be exclusively interviewed by their chosen council as a successful local candidate.

Who can apply?

The scheme is targeted at graduates who live or work in the borough – you might already be employed by the Council, but we also want to encourage other graduates to apply too. It’s a two-year programme and if you don’t already work for us, you can expect a two-year fixed term contract and a starting salary of over £25,000 that can be subject to annual increases. You’ll also receive a generous holiday entitlement, pension scheme and the opportunity to work flexibly to enhance your work/life balance.

And if you work for us already, joining the scheme will provide you with unrivalled development opportunities whilst still working for the Council under your current terms and conditions (unless less favourable).

Harrow Council positively encourage all applicants to self-identify their characteristics in the equal opportunities monitoring section in the application. We are actively committed to the principle of equal employment opportunity for all applicants and to providing employees with a work environment free from discrimination and harassment.
