About the role

We are seeking a HR Support Officer to join our forward-thinking HR and Payroll team at a really interesting time.

To be successful in this role, you will be organised, confident and have an ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality. You will need to be able to deal sensitively with employees, have acute attention to detail and be able to work on own initiative.

The role will be the first point of contact for HR enquiries in providing basic generalist HR support. They will advise and guide managers on policy matters including maternity, adoption and shared parental leave.  The role will provide support on employee relations and performance management matters (grievance, disciplinary, performance, capability investigations and hearings).

The role will also support the coordination of national recruitment campaigns delivered by the HR & Payroll team for the wider LGA. This may include the National Graduate Development Programme (ngdp) and Returner programmes (such as Return to Social Work).

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is committed to and wants to make a real contribution to the team and deliver a truly customer focused service.

Previous administration and organisational skills gained in a HR or payroll department is essential. You will be focused on the detail, be well organised and committed to providing a timely and efficient response as well as continuously looking for ways of improving systems and processes, therefore someone with a can do attitude is essential.

About you

Although not essential, you are likely to be a CIPD member and you will bring a demonstrable track record of generalist HR experience.

Typically this role would be based in our Westminster office, however all LGA staff are currently working from home so you will be home-based initially. We will provide the right equipment and allowances to do this comfortably, but this will mean that you will need to be a self-starter, able to organise and prioritise with limited supervision.

As a generalist role in a small team there will be a variety of tasks to fulfil, sometimes at short-notice, so you will need to be able to demonstrate your ability to multi-task and liaise with multiple people, in a remote environment.

Although this role is full-time, we will consider applicants interested in working part-time (minimum 3 days per week) – please reference this in your application.

We do operate a flexible working model, so office based staff are able to work from home up to 2 days per week.

The interview will take place via a video platform.

Closing date:             5 pm, Monday 1 June 2020

Interviews:                 Wednesday 10 June 2020
